Once again I'll explain what is to be done

The game consists of 4 jumbled words, which has to be set right. The letters that fall in certain encircled areas of the word have to be separated and taken out, which has to be rearranged to form a meaningful statement in relation to a cartoon/statement given beside. I have found this exercise to be immensely satisfying in terms of enhancement of my analytical skills and English vocabulary improvement. Not a day passes for me without successfully unscrambling the jumble; and I hardly fail in solving the puzzle. Such exercises refresh me analytically and many a time, I have come across new words when I have solved the game.

I just love the unscrambled word game, which recharges our analytical capacity and improves word power. It is an entire exercise in itself that keeps up your mental alertness and is beneficial in many ways, especially improves your English. Want to try this? I'll give you the answers later.

For beginners

For any sentence to convey sense, we need to have components such as Noun/subject, verb, preposition, conjunction, article etc.

For example, consider a sentence ‘A man walks on the road’. If we split the components of the sentence

A- Article; man- subject; walks- verb; on - preposition; road- object.

A, ‘an’ and ‘the’ are articles which help form a sentence to introduce the subjects and allows the sentence to continue smoothly.

A verb indicates the action performed like walks, eats, sleeps, goes etc. A verb has to agree with the tense of the action performed.

Words such as in, on, to, etc are called prepositions. The name itself implies that they indicate the position of the subject and answers the question where the man walks. It also answer the questions where, how, what etc.

He is fond of money (fond of what?)

I travel by bus (how I traveled)

I gazed at the picture (Where I gazed?)

She kept it on the table (Where she kept?)

For those of my readers in intermediate levels

I have seen a common mistake by people even who speak fairly good English. They use ‘can’ and ‘able’ to together. As both the words imply the same meaning, they are not supposed to be used together in tandem (‘in tandem’ is a phrase meaning ‘one behind the other’). I’ll gradually highlight such mistakes so readers can fine tune their language for the better.

Right usage: I can write a letter

Wrong: I can able to write a letter

For those in advanced levels of English

Let’s see a couple of phrases worth discussing. Idioms and phrases imply a hidden meaning to convey something instead of conveying directly. That’s we commonly understand about them. The phrases ‘throw up’ and ‘throw in the towel’ would be interesting to know. ‘Throw up’ means to ‘vomit’. ‘Throw in the towel’ means ‘to give up your efforts on something’.

You may say, “I threw up as I couldn’t stand the smell of the garbage”

“I threw in the towel as I found the task very taxing”.

Importance of English
